Practice, Practice, Practice

"The Smarter Balanced Practice Test and the Training Test provide students with a preview of test questions aligned to academic standards for grades 3–8 and high school in both English language arts/literacy and math. Both resources can help teachers and students prepare for the Smarter Balanced assessments." ~Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium

Hello Werner S.T.A.R. Families and Community!

We are off to a great start here at Werner Elementary. Our students are coming to school ready to learn and grow!  We are currently assessing our students using our new assessment program I-Ready and getting to know the academic needs of our students. Teachers are using this information to provide support in the classroom. As parents, you can help by ensuring that your child is reading every night. The expectation is that students take AR quizzes on the books they are reading. Every Werner Star is a Reader! In grades Pre-K through 3 we are implementing Footsteps2Brilliance. This program is free and every student in grades Pre-k thought 3rd have a Super Secret Code that gives them access to read books and activities. Every week I check to see which students are using the program and which classrooms are increasing their vocabulary/word count.  This is a district initiative that is promoting literacy opportunities for all students and getting children ready for kindergarten and beyond. Finally, I wanted to thank our parents, staff, and students for participating in our 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony! We had classes who made posters, wrote letters, and our students wore patriotic colors. This was an opportunity for our students to remember the brave men and women who ensure our freedoms and our security every day. WE at Werner believe that we are GREATER when we come together as one. Thank you for your continued support in making Werner…. “A Shining S.T.A.R. of Excellence!”
